This table has the worst case of the uglies I’ve ever seen.
Complete with feathers and all. This was previously a horrible neon colored child’s table.
This post is a metaphor explaining mom culture and its transformation.
Out with the old…

In with the new…

I have to believe the old “soccer mom” stigmas will not apply to me when I start having babies. I’m not sure why, it’s just important to me. So here is my first attempt at cleansing the world with the worn out mom style, and bringing in some hipster mom style!
The Ugly Duckling Table-
A Metaphor for Old mom style vs. New mom style

HORRID!

GHASTLY!
I bought this little kid’s table at a garage sale for $5. I also bought chalk board spray paint and light blue spray paint.
As you can see, the previous owner wanted to bedazzle it with a wonderful feather boa… It was really bad. I had to end up sanding the feathers off. I never thought it would take a sander to remove feathers.

Lovely! I'm not sure if it's for a boy or girl! Either way, someone is riding an elephant...
It was kind of circus-y with BRIGHT blue, green and pink!
I started by spraying it with a primer. Then sanding and wiping down.
Then I spray painted the top with the chalk board paint. It took 3 or 4 coats to get it really even.
Then I painted the legs a robin’s egg blue. This took a lot of spray painting, sanding, spray painting, sanding… I thought that color combination would be great for boys or girls.
I think it’s adorable now and the perfect size for a kids room or play room.
This table was in desperate need of a savior. Someone to believe in it! Someone to have a vision for its life beyond bright colors and neglected table accessories (feathers). Someone needed to come and commit the time to change it. It needed to be modern, versatile, unique. This table now represents the freedom of all moms to reject the clashing bright colors of yesterday and to embrace the fun yet sane style of tomorrow!

It is available for purchase on my Etsy store. I’ll give discounts to friends and family!
